GOFAR's mission is to eliminate pet overpopulation in the Greater Oneonta area through effective spay/neuter programs, education and assistance to area shelters. GOFAR's primary objectives are:
Since it was founded, in 1990, GOFAR has subsidized a spay/neuter voucher program to provide assistance to low income families. Since the year 2000, GOFAR also runs a clinic that provides low cost spay/neuter for cats and is held monthly.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter
Clinic for Cats
Thanks to GOFAR member Dr. Joan Puritz of Crescent Pet Lodge, GOFAR continues to run a monthly Spay/Neuter Clinic for Cats! Tentative schedule for 2008:
A fee of $30 covers the spay/neuter procedure, antibiotics, vaccinations, de-worming, ear cleaning and nail trimming. Clinics are generally held monthly, on Sundays. Appointments can be made by emailing us at gofar2spay@yahoo.com or by calling the GOFAR number, 431-9731 and leaving a message with your name, phone number and number of cats to be added to our waiting list. You will receive a confirmation call a few days prior to the clinic if there are still appointments available on the clinic day. Otherwise your name will remain on the waiting list in the order in which we received it. Sometimes the list can become fairly long, so you may not get in the clinic the same month you called. Please be patient, we will get to your name! ON CLINIC DAY: All cats must be in a separate carrier or trap and dropped off and registered when and where specified in your confirmation call. The fees are due at time of registration. All cats attending the clinic should have no food or water from midnight of the day before the clinic. All cats must be picked up at end of the clinic; times will be given at registration.
